The Financial Assistant III provides financial customer service with knowledge of the various issues that may impact a student and responds to the customer with information they can understand while providing ways for the customer to resolve any account balance issue that may be applicable. Also, knowledge of what has changed, been recently billed, or processed is required to resolve customer inquiries each day. Additionally, quality customer service requires us to treat the customer with respect as we explain various issues impacting their financial status with the University. In summary, exceptional customer service to our students and parents (customers) requires exceptional communication including: customer friendly communication in person, on the phone, and via e-mail; plus listening to the students? concerns, responding to help them resolve their business need. Additionally, performing cashiering function of the University including: processing cash receipts, balancing cash drawer, preparing bank deposit, filing transmittal reports and receipts, balancing credit card report, and assisting customers with financial transactions.
Student Customer Service ? respond to student and parents questions, providing account balance, payment plan options, payment deadlines and explaining tuition and fee charges.
+ Explain how financial aid and scholarship are applied to their account.
+ Respond to student refund questions and requirement to receive a refund.
+ Respond to questions regarding ?holds? placed on the students account and how to get them removed which depends on the type of hold.
+ Provide quality customer service during high volume times.
+ Clear communication skills and understanding of the student billing is required to respond to all inquiries.
Departmental Customer Service ? process departmental receipts within the A&M System policies, working with departments to credit the correct account. Requires knowledge of the chart of accounts when selecting the correct account and object code for departmental deposits.
Daily Responsibilities:
+ Process student payments via cash or credit card payment or assistance with online payments.
+ Process loan and A/P checks daily and work the mail logs.
+ Process daily bank deposit and balance all receipts (cash, credit card) at the end of each day.
+ Answer phone calls and multi-task to complete all daily procedures.
+ Balance all credit card activity posted each day.
+ File payment receipts each day.
Maintains 100% compliance with timely completion of required System University and job specific online training courses.
Other duties as assigned.
Necessary Qualifications:
+ High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
+ Three years of related experience. Financial customer service and/or payment processing experience or any of the following experience: cashiering, balancing cash, preparing deposits, and working with the public.
+ Computer skills- Word and Excel.
+ Detail oriented, good oral and written communication skills, people skills, and organizational skills.
+ Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Four years of providing financial customer service, cashier experience.
+ Experience providing assistance with student financial billing/statements including financial aid and cost of attendance.
+ Knowledge of payment processing.
+ Customer service experience and knowledge of various issues that impact a students balance and adaptive to explaining changes while treating the customer with respect.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
