West Texas A&M University, a member of the Texas A&M University System, invites applications for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Agricultural Business and Economics. This is a nine-month, tenure track (60% teaching, 30% research and 10% service) position that reports to the Head of the Department of Agricultural Sciences. WTAMU is a four-year academic institution of 9,500 students serving the Panhandle of Texas and portions of four adjacent states. This geographic region is noted for its agricultural production and related businesses. The Department of Agricultural Sciences offers two Bachelor of Science Degrees relating to agricultural economics and agribusiness: a B.S. Degree in Agricultural Business and Economics and a B.S. Degree in Agribusiness. A Master of Science Degree with an emphasis in Agricultural Business and Economics is also offered in Agricultural Sciences. The Department also offers a Ph.D. in Systems Agriculture. More than 190 students are enrolled in the Department's Agricultural Business and Economics and Agribusiness programs with about 780 students enrolled in the Department of Agricultural Sciences.
Closing Date: December 15, 2018, or until suitable candidate is identified. Position is available August 1, 2019. Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Potential for summer salary from teaching and/or extramural research funding is available.
Work Performed:
+ Develop a strong teaching program in the agriculture economics/agribusiness area with emphasis in in at least one of the following areas: production and resource management, international trade, or policy.
+ Develop and deliver undergraduate and graduate courses.
+ Develop a research program in an area of agriculture economics/agribusiness that will lead to problem solutions for the agribusiness industry of the Texas High Plains with the potential to attract extramural funding.
+ Work closely with agribusiness industry leaders in assessing regional teaching, research, and service needs.
+ Develop interactive programs with scientists, engineers, and veterinarians in other agencies, universities and the agriculture industry of the Texas High Plains.
Necessary Qualifications:
+ Ph.D. in agricultural economics, economics, agribusiness, or closely related field.
+ Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and service.
+ Commitment to a systems and interdisciplinary approach to research and educational programs.
+ Excellent computer, written and oral communication skills.
+ Working knowledge of crop and livestock industries.
+ Interpersonal skills, vision, and desire to establish working relationships with external constituents.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
