Job Description
West Texas A&M University, a Member of The Texas A&M University System, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Environmental Science (60% teaching, 35% research, 5% service). This full time (9 month) position at West Texas A&M University will include responsibilities in teaching/research/service supportive of the environmental science program. Teaching duties will include existing or new courses within the successful candidate's area of expertise at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Research areas include the traditional environmental science subdisciplines but may also include interdisciplinary collaborations across the geological, environmental, and agricultural spectrum. It is expected that the candidate will cooperate extensively with scientists at West Texas A&M University, Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, and other state and federal agencies in the region. The successful candidate will be expected to attract and secure extramural funding, publish in peer reviewed journals, attend professional meetings, advise undergraduate and graduate students in environmental science, engage students in research, and develop and deliver effective educational programs to the community.
Work Performed:
+ Teaching selected undergraduate and graduate courses in the Environmental Science program, such as Fundamentals of Environmental Science, Toxicology, Wildland Soils, Geographic Information Systems, and developing new courses based on candidate's experience and expertise.
+ Developing a dynamic research program by attracting new grants and opportunities that would allow undergraduate and graduate student participation.
+ Conducting professional service for the institution, academic field, and community.
+ Recruiting and advising students with the goal of growing the Environmental Science program in all aspects.
+ Assisting Environmental Science students to prepare for state and national professional certifications such as: Certified Hazardous Waste Manager; Certified Project Manager; Certified Professional Geologist/Geoscientist; Certified Industrial Health Professional; Certified Professional Environmental Scientist.
Necessary Qualifications:
+ An earned Ph.D. in Environmental Science or related area (Biology, Geosciences).
+ Competency in research related to environmental science, as evidenced by publications.
+ Demonstrated experience in teaching, research, and service.
+ Excellent quantitative, computer, written, and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Areas of teaching and research expertise of special interest may include: occupational health and safety; GIS and remote sensing applications; resource and sustainability science; environmental compliance, restoration, monitoring, or related research; and contaminant fate and transport modeling. However, candidates with experience in other areas of environmental science are encouraged to apply.
+ Application of integrated science addressing environmental issues in one of the following areas: industry; agriculture; local, state or federal government; non-governmental national or international organizations (NGOs); environmental conservation/preservation.
+ Commitment to an interdisciplinary team approach to research, education, and service.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
